Amazon Addresses Resident Concerns with Kline Twp. Data Center Plans
Amazon's proposed data center in Kline Twp., Pennsylvania, has been met with concerns from residents about groundwater, noise, and explosives during construction. In a 28-page letter to the township's planning commission, Amazon's engineers responded to these concerns and provided technical answers.
The engineers stated that the project covers only one-quarter mile of the 1.7-mile watershed for the village of Lofty and is unlikely to affect the village's water supply based on limited well data available. They also proposed infiltration in landscaped areas and stormwater basins, which will help groundwater recharge.
Regarding noise, Amazon agreed to limit construction to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., six days a week, and between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. The company also sought an exception from the township's noise ordinance to run backup generators.
The data center will have nine buildings, covering approximately 390 acres between Interstate 81 and Lofty Road. Amazon has applied for permits and obtained one state permit covering National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems.
