Amazon Adds Cybersecurity Veteran Kevin Mandia to Board
Amazon has added Kevin Mandia to its board of directors. A cybersecurity expert, Mandia is widely recognized for his experience combating cyber threats in both public and private sectors. He founded Mandiant in 2004 and sold it to Google for $5.4 billion in 2022. After leaving Google in 2024, he launched a new startup called Armadin that uses AI to identify network vulnerabilities.
Mandia is also a general partner at Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm he co-founded. His appointment comes as companies grapple with new cybersecurity threats tied to artificial intelligence. Amazon's blog post highlighted Mandia's experience and stated that his perspective will help inform the Board's view on these opportunities and challenges.
As part of his appointment, Mandia received 4,086 shares of common stock valued at about $1 million at Wednesday's closing price. His sister-in-law, Kristin Mandia, is a company employee who works as a senior online community manager for Amazon Quick, an enterprise AI service.
