Amazon Axes 'Spider-Noir' After One Season Amid Sony's Spidey Universe Struggles
Amazon has canceled its live-action TV show 'Spider-Noir' after only one season. The show, developed by Oren Uziel and starring Nicolas Cage as a private eye turned superhero in 1930s New York City, was notable for being presented simultaneously in color or black and white episodes.
The decision to cancel the show comes despite its cast, which included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, and Brendan Gleeson, and executive producers Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. The show's gimmick of allowing viewers to choose between color and black-and-white episodes was not enough to entice audiences.
The cancellation of 'Spider-Noir' marks the end of a deal between Sony and Amazon to develop Spider-Man shows that complement Sony's Spidey movies. The move follows the record-breaking success of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', but also comes as Sony is still searching for ways to translate this success into other films within their universe.
