Amazon Bets Big on Anthropic AI with $100 Billion Contract
Amazon's multi-billion dollar partnership with Anthropic has taken a significant step forward. The tech giant has integrated Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 into Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS, making it available to over 100,000 customers. This integration is part of the $100 billion contract between Amazon and Anthropic, which spans ten years and includes reserved capacity for up to five gigawatts.
The real game-changer here is cost. Anthropic's new pricing model promises to make typical token-based workloads 25% cheaper than Fable 5, while highly agentic work could see savings of up to 45%. This price cut comes at a crucial time for Amazon's AI strategy, with the company looking to drive growth in its cloud business.
Amazon's latest quarterly results showed $42.2 billion in AWS revenue, an annualized pace of $168.8 billion. Anthropic's average yearly commitment of $10 billion represents about 5.9% of this run rate. With lower prices potentially pulling more customers and agents onto AWS, Amazon may see a boost to its bottom line.
