Amazon is expanding its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing unit by acquiring DuckLabs, a European-based company that specializes in analytics technology. The acquisition will allow AWS to bolster its analytics capabilities and make them 'faster, simpler, and more cost-effective for customers', according to an Amazon statement.

DuckLabs is the company behind the development of open-source software DuckDB, but most of its products will remain free and open source under current licensing agreements. The non-profit organization called the DuckDB Foundation will independently govern these products.

The integration of DuckLabs and access to its management team are expected to help Amazon build multiple data centers that can power its artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. With this acquisition, AWS aims to become a more formidable player in the cloud computing market.
