Amazon Breaks Ground on Massive Texas Data Center Project
Amazon is pushing forward with its massive data center project in Wharton County, Texas. Construction has already begun on nearly 3,000 acres off FM 442 in Boling, with a $10 billion investment and 13 buildings planned to support Amazon Web Services cloud computing operations.
The project will bring 300 full-time jobs to the area, exceeding the current county average wage. According to Keith Klein, Amazon's Director of Supply Solutions for the Americas, 150 of those jobs will be fulfilled by the end of 2027.
Amazon officials addressed concerns about water usage, stating that the facility will rely on a closed-loop air-cooled system and use only 16,000 gallons of water per day. This is equivalent to about 54 residential homes or a single office building of similar size.
