Amazon Builds Ground Stations for Kuiper Constellation Expansion
Amazon's Kuiper Systems has filed applications with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to build three new ground stations in Florida, Minnesota, and Texas. The Florida application is for a gateway at 10161 Range Line Rd in Port St. Lucie, operated by United Teleports, while the Minnesota deployment will be located at 3652 170th Avenue in Twin Valley. The Texas deployment is planned for 2271 FM 1757 in Seminole.
The applications are part of Amazon's plan to install over 300 ground stations to support its Kuiper Systems constellation, which aims to deliver 117 terabits per second once fully deployed. The company has committed to investing more than $10 billion in the project, leveraging its in-house expertise to scale its downstream capacity.
The proposed gateways will consist of six 2.4-meter antennas operating in the 27.5-30 GHz, 17.8-18.6 GHz, and 18.8-20.2 GHz bands, with no more than four transmitting on the same channel at any given time.
