Amazon Cancels Five Scripted Series Amid Strategic Shifts

Amazon Prime Video has canceled five scripted series as part of its ongoing strategic shifts under Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global TV Peter Friedlander. The shows were all cancelled after short runs, despite some receiving solid reviews or fan traction.

The cancelled shows include 'Spider-Noir', a live-action noir-styled Marvel series starring Nicolas Cage, which was cancelled on September 4, 2026, after one season due to its high production cost and limited global traction. The show had a 92 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Another show canceled is 'It's Not Like That', a faith-based family drama that premiered in January 2026 and was cancelled on July 7, 2026, after one season despite holding a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. The series followed Malcolm, a recently widowed pastor, and Lori, a newly divorced mother, as they navigated single parenthood.

The adult animated sitcom 'Kevin' was also cancelled on June 19, 2026, after two months of release, despite earning a 64 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show followed Kevin, a neurotic anthropomorphic tuxedo cat voiced by Jason Schwartzman, as he adjusted to life after his human owners split up.

Prime Video has also canceled 'The Runarounds', a musical teen drama that premiered in September 2025 and was cancelled in April 2026 after one season. The show followed a group of Wilmington, North Carolina, teens who formed a rock band and pursued a record deal during the summer after high school.

Lastly, Amazon has canceled 'Gen V', a Boys franchise spinoff that premiered in 2023 and quickly became a critical hit. Despite strong reviews and franchise relevance, Amazon canceled Gen V in April 2026, after two seasons.
