Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
A cargo jet operated by Amazon crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing five people in a cleaning service van. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident.
The NTSB reported that flight data suggests the plane attempted to abort an unsteady landing before crashing into the van and another vehicle. The investigation found that the jet overran the runway by about 1,300 feet after a two-hour flight from Puerto Rico.
Former FAA official Mike O'Donnell said the pilot may have hesitated in executing a go-around, which could have prevented the crash. Aviation attorney Mary Schiavo added that it 'almost seems like there was a disagreement between the pilots on what to do.'
The NTSB will interview the pilot and co-pilot on Wednesday as part of their investigation.
