Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
On Sunday afternoon, an Amazon cargo jet operated by 21 Air landed at Miami International Airport, but failed to stop on the runway. The plane, a 32-year-old Boeing 767, overran the runway and crashed into a roadway, killing five people. Three were critically injured, and two others sustained less severe injuries.
The victims were all inside a van carrying seven people from a cleaning company. An SUV was also involved in the crash, which occurred outside of airport property. National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy described the scene as 'utter devastation.'
Homendy said investigators will examine various factors that contributed to the crash, including the plane's speed and braking, weather conditions, wind, and mechanical condition.
The NTSB team, led by Homendy, is investigating the cause of the accident. Aviation experts have raised concerns about the plane's landing distance, with some suggesting it may have been beyond the normal touchdown zone.
