Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
A devastating crash occurred at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6. The Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767 cargo plane overran the runway and caught fire while landing, killing five people and injuring five others. According to Jennifer Homendy, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairwoman, the two crew members aboard survived the accident.
The jet collided with multiple vehicles, including a van that was carrying at least eight occupants. Seven of the victims were in this van, which was owned by Ocean Service Corporation, a contract cleaning company for airlines. The NTSB observed what appeared to be deployed airbags in the vehicles as they surveyed the crash site.
The aircraft then continued into the grass and impacted another fence line, separating an area where Tesla robotaxis were stationed. In total, the jet traveled 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface, causing extensive damage to airport navigational aids and equipment.
