Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami Airport, Kills Five

A cargo jet carrying Amazon packages crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing five people and injuring several others. The plane, a Boeing 767, overran the runway and came to rest near two semitrucks.

The victims were all inside a van carrying seven people from Professional Ocean Service Corp., an airline cleaning contractor, when it was struck by the plane. Three people were critically injured, while two others had less severe injuries.

According to National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy, the plane followed a normal approach procedure but landed too far down the runway, which is considered beyond the safe landing zone.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with federal investigators examining factors such as the plane's speed and braking, weather conditions, and aircraft mechanical condition. Aviation experts noted that if the plane had touched down too late to stop safely, it should have aborted the landing and gone around for another try.
