Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami International Airport, Five Fatalities Reported
A cargo jet operated by North Carolina-based carrier 21 Air, which was transporting Amazon Prime Air packages from San Juan, Puerto Rico, overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday.
The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, which was first delivered as a passenger plane in 1994 and converted to cargo use in 2015, failed to stop after landing and crossed a roadway used by warehouse workers and nearby businesses.
The crash resulted in at least five fatalities and five injuries, with three of the injured taken to a trauma center in critical condition and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries.
Federal investigators provided an update on Monday, stating that they had recovered both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, which will aid in their examination of why the aircraft could not stop after landing.
