Amazon Cargo Jet Crashes at Miami International Airport Killing Five
A Boeing 767-300 cargo jet operated by Amazon crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing five people and injuring several others.
The plane was carrying over 32,000 pounds of contact lenses from Puerto Rico, where many manufacturers have their factories.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the pilots failed to follow normal procedures for slowing down during landing and deployed critical systems meant to slow the aircraft only seconds before it came to a stop.
The NTSB's investigator-in-charge, Chihoon Shin, said that flight data showed the plane touched down with its nose and right main landing gear at 181 mph, but the brakes were not applied until seven seconds later.
