Amazon Cargo Plane Crash Caused by Excessive Speed, Investigation Finds
A fatal Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport on Sunday has been found to be caused by excessive speed during approach, according to newly released National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) data. The NTSB released transcripts from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from Prime Air Flight 7598.
Aviation attorney Pablo Rojas said that the data confirms the plane was coming in too fast, with the pilots attempting a go-around approximately 30 seconds before impact. The cockpit transcripts also indicated miscommunication between the pilots moments before the crash.
Rojas noted that the timing of the flaps deployment was significant, as it happened much later than usual. Normally, flaps would be deployed at a higher altitude to slow down the plane and aid in landing. In this case, the deployment may have been delayed due to the pilots responding to the excessive speed.
The investigation has not yet determined the reason for the excessive speed, with Rojas cautioning that it's too early to draw conclusions. The NTSB stated that the released data is preliminary and subject to change, and it could be days or weeks before a cause is determined.
