Amazon Cargo Plane Crash Kills Five, Investigation Underway

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed that all five victims of the Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport on Sunday were inside a van carrying seven people from a cleaning company, along with an SUV hit outside airport property.

Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy described the scene as 'utter devastation,' noting tire marks from the pavement into the grass, destroyed fencing, navigational equipment, and debris including vehicle air bags and equipment from the vehicles, airplane, and airport.

The Boeing 767 cargo plane had traveled about 1,300 feet past the paved surface before crashing. Homendy said the NTSB would issue more information on Tuesday, possibly including details on speed confirmed by the flight data recorder.

Investigators are examining whether the plane touched down too late to stop safely and will look at factors such as speed, braking, weather conditions, aircraft mechanical condition, and other possible causes of the deadly overrun.
