Amazon Cargo Plane Crash Raises Concerns About Runway Safety
A devastating cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport has left at least five people dead and raised concerns about runway safety.
The Amazon Prime Air plane, a Boeing 767-300, overran the runway during landing, crashing into vehicles and airport equipment. The incident occurred on September 6th, just six months after an Air Canada passenger plane struck a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, killing its two pilots.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy described the scene as 'devastating' and said it's too soon to know what went wrong. The investigation will examine factors such as weather conditions, air traffic control, and the plane's operators.
The NTSB has deployed a 32-person investigative team to assess every aspect of the situation, including the aircraft, its operators, and airport conditions. The team will also study Amazon's contractual relationship with 21 Air, the company operating the plane.
