Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport After Overshooting Runway
An Amazon cargo plane, operated by 21 Air, crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday after overshooting the runway. The incident occurred around 2pm when the plane, a 32-year-old Boeing 767, arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The aircraft struck several vehicles and burst into flames, trapping some occupants in cars. Fire crews were still dealing with a fuel leak on the plane several hours after the crash. According to Miami-Dade County officials, five people were killed, three critically injured, and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries.
Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said that the pilot and copilot were trapped in the cockpit, while some occupants were trapped in cars or under a vehicle. The agency is still investigating the cause of the crash.
