Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Five Killed

An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane, operated by 21 Air, crashed at Miami International Airport on September 6, 2026, after overshooting the runway and bursting into flames. The Boeing 767-300 aircraft was flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it failed to stop within the designated touchdown zone.

The plane crossed a nearby road, hitting multiple vehicles before catching fire. Five people were killed in the crash, with three taken to hospital in critical condition and two treated for less serious injuries.

Aviation experts questioned whether the pilots should have aborted the landing due to the plane's high speed at impact. The airport does not have crushable-material safety beds installed, which could have helped prevent or mitigate the severity of the crash.

The incident led to a ground stop and the cancellation of over 160 flights, with many passengers facing long delays and disrupted travel plans.
