Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing At Least Five

A devastating cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport on Sunday has left at least five people dead and five injured, according to officials.

The Amazon Prime Air plane, operated by 21 Air, a cargo carrier based in North Carolina, was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico when it overran the runway around 2 p.m. The aircraft then plowed across a road used by warehouse workers and other businesses surrounding the airport, causing significant damage.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy will hold a news conference on Monday to detail their plans for determining what went wrong.

Experts say one possible factor in the crash could be whether the plane flew too far before touching down, which would have required the pilots to abort the landing and go around for another attempt. The Miami airport does not have arresting systems that can safely stop planes that overrun the runway.
