Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
A deadly plane crash at Miami International Airport left behind 'utter devastation' and claimed five lives, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. The Amazon Prime Air cargo plane, operated by 21 Air, overran the runway while arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with two crew members on board.
The Boeing 767 aircraft struck navigational aids and other airport equipment before hitting a white Ford Econoline van belonging to a cleaning services company. It then continued beyond the airport fence, striking a Toyota Corolla Cross traveling outside the airport, and finally came to rest after traveling 1,300 feet beyond the end of the paved surface.
Homendy described the scene as 'devastating,' with debris scattered across the area, including fuel that will need to be remediated. Investigators have recovered the aircraft's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder and are sending them to the NTSB's Washington headquarters for review.
