Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, crashing into multiple vehicles and catching fire. The incident resulted in the deaths of five people.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz identified the victims as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.
Five others were injured in the crash, with three remaining hospitalized. Two of those individuals are in critical condition. The two pilots on board were treated and released from the hospital.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident, which occurred when Amazon Air Flight 7598 attempted to land at the Miami airport after traveling from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The plane overshot the runway by approximately 1,300 feet before crashing into vehicles and a fence line.
