Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, killing five people and injuring five others. The 32-year-old Boeing 767 aircraft was flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran the runway during a landing attempt.
The plane, operated by 21 Air, struck multiple vehicles before catching fire and sending a thick black plume of smoke into the air. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied 'Ray' Jadallah said that several victims were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated.
The pilots were removed from the plane and taken for treatment. A review of air traffic control audio by CNN shows that they did not declare an emergency before the landing.
The National Transportation Safety Board is gathering information about the crash, while the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate. The incident has sparked concerns about runway safety at Miami International Airport.
