Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport, Killing Five
An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on September 7, 2026, killing five people and injuring several others. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred during an attempted landing.
According to flight data, the plane tried to abort an unsteady landing before smashing into a van and careening through a fence onto a city street. NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said investigators are reviewing flight data and cockpit recordings to determine what happened in the seconds leading up to the crash.
The pilot and co-pilot have been released from the hospital, but two people remain in critical condition, while a third is in stable condition. The five people killed were all inside a van used to shuttle crews that clean planes.
Experts say the pilots may have hesitated too long before attempting to abort the landing, which could have led to the plane running out of runway and crashing. Former FAA official Mike O'Donnell said the fact that the plane landed on its nose and right landing gear first demonstrates an unstable landing.
