Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport, Killing Five
An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least five people. The aircraft, operated by 21 Air, overran the runway and struck vehicles before bursting into flames. Five people were killed, three critically injured, and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries.
The plane, a Boeing 767 originally built to carry passengers, had been converted to a cargo plane in 2015. It was staffed by a pilot and copilot on the domestic flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, but thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 30 mph were recorded in the area at the time.
More than 160 flights were canceled and nearly 325 delayed by late Sunday, according to FlightAware. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to Miami to investigate the crash.
