Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes into Van at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, and crashed into a van carrying seven people. The incident resulted in five fatalities, with no identities released yet by officials.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation, which will examine factors such as whether an engineered materials arrestor system (EMAS) would have prevented the crash. EMAS systems are made of crushable lightweight concrete and can be found at some airports but not Miami International.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy expressed her condolences for the victims and their families, stating 'Utter devastation' was evident on the scene, with tire marks continuing through the grass, the van torn apart, and debris scattered everywhere.
