Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes Off Miami Runway, Killing At Least Five
An Amazon cargo plane careened off a Miami runway on Sunday, killing at least five people and injuring five others. The Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air for Amazon Air, was attempting to land on Runway 30 when it went off the normal path and failed to stop before reaching a four-lane road.
According to tracking data from Flightradar24, the plane reached speeds of nearly 130 miles per hour after its left rear gear continued to bounce along the runway. The jet sliced across the pavement, striking several vehicles before sliding to a fiery stop just shy of a parking lot filled with dozens of cars.
Rescue crews rushed in to douse the fire and extract victims from the plane's interior and nearby vehicles. Mary Schiavo, a CNN transportation analyst, noted that Miami International Airport lacks an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of Runway 30, which could have potentially stopped the aircraft from overrunning the airport property.
