A Boeing 767-300 cargo plane carrying packages for Amazon overshot Miami International Airport's runway, crashed through a fence and concrete barriers, and struck two vehicles on a nearby road, killing at least five people and injuring five others.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. ET on Sunday as the plane, operated by 21 Air, attempted to land on Runway 30 after flying past its usual landing zone under dark clouds. The aircraft remained airborne deep into the runway before finally coming to a stop about 1,300 feet past the paved surface near a parking lot.

The impact was severe, leaving a trail of 'utter devastation' behind it. The plane's left rear gear continued to bounce along the pavement as it approached the runway's end, before striking a 2012 Ford van carrying seven people and a Toyota SUV on the nearby road.

National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy described the scene as 'one of the most catastrophic accidents' she has ever seen. The NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash, which may include factors such as weather conditions, pilot experience, and air traffic control procedures.
