Amazon Cargo Plane Overruns Runway at Miami International Airport

A routine cargo flight into Miami International Airport turned into a major emergency when an Amazon Air Boeing 767 overran the runway, struck multiple vehicles, and caught fire on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. local time as the aircraft, operated by 21 Air on behalf of Amazon, was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The plane left the usable portion of Runway 30 shortly after landing and continued beyond the runway environment, damaging airport navigation equipment and striking vehicles before coming to rest.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the runway overrun, which resulted in five fatalities and five injuries, including three people who were reported to be in critical condition. The National Transportation Safety Board will also examine the aircraft, runway environment, weather conditions, and crew actions as they reconstruct the sequence of events.
