Amazon Cargo Plane Skids Off Miami Runway, Igniting Blaze
An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, causing a fire and striking several vehicles. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as the aircraft was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The plane came to rest beside a roadway with two semitrucks parked nearby, according to images from the scene. It appeared to be largely intact despite being on its belly and catching fire.
More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the crash, but officials had not yet released information on injuries or deaths as of late Sunday afternoon.
The Federal Aviation Administration sent investigators to the scene, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a full ground stop at Miami International Airport. The airport's runways and taxiways were closed, causing delays for around 250 flights.
