Amazon Cuts 121 Jobs in Washington State Amid Broader Tech Layoffs
Amazon has laid off 121 employees in Washington state since July, according to a recent regulatory filing. The affected employees were notified between July 1 and July 29, with their termination dates ranging from October 1 to October 27.
The layoffs have impacted multiple Amazon offices, including those in Seattle, Bellevue, and Sumner. An office in downtown Bellevue was hit the hardest, with 53 out of the 121 employees laid off based there. A total of 35 employees were laid off in Seattle, while 32 were let go at a warehouse in Sumner.
Amazon has stated that these layoffs are not indicative of a larger wave of cuts across the company. According to Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser, 'teams across the company regularly review their structures to ensure they're best set up to deliver on their goals.' This process sometimes results in roles being deemed unnecessary, leading to layoffs.
The recent layoffs at Amazon are part of a broader trend affecting the tech industry in Washington state. Since May 2025, more than 10,000 Seattle-based employees have been laid off by various tech companies, including Microsoft and TikTok. Amazon's own cuts this year follow on from sweeping reductions in October and January that affected 30,000 employees.
