Amazon Dethrones Walmart as Global Revenue Leader
Amazon has dethroned Walmart as the world's highest-revenue company, according to the 2026 ranking of the world's top 30 companies by revenue. The e-commerce giant posted annual revenue of $716.9 billion, narrowly edging out Walmart's $713.2 billion. This marks a significant shift in the global corporate landscape, with Amazon's diversified business model and cloud services driving its growth.
The ranking shows that U.S. companies dominate the list, occupying 15 of the top 30 spots and 7 of the top 10. China's State Grid Corporation ranks third globally with $555 billion in revenue, making it the world's largest state-owned enterprise. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. secured the 23rd position with annual revenue of approximately $260 billion, standing as the only Taiwanese company on the list.
Amazon's ascent to the top reflects a broader shift in the global corporate competitive landscape away from traditional retail toward technology-driven business models. The company's cloud computing arm AWS, digital advertising, and other businesses have expanded rapidly, diversifying its revenue sources and significantly boosting profitability.
