Amazon Doubles Down on Canadian Growth Despite Escalating Tariffs
Amazon's expansion plans in Canada are moving forward despite an escalating tariff war between the US and Canada. Internal documents show that Amazon expects package volume in Canada to grow faster than in the US over the next several years.
The company is doubling down on its Canadian operations, with plans to expand fulfillment capacity, same-day delivery, and its logistics network in Canada.
A March document revealed that tariffs were already affecting some of Amazon's Canadian supply chain decisions. The company had changed some direct-import sourcing from the US to China 'to avoid tariffs'.
However, Amazon believes faster-moving competitors threaten its ability to capture growth in Canada. The company expects Canadian package volume to increase by over 40% between 2026 and 2029.
