Amazon Doubles Down on Nvidia Partnership with Massive GPU Deployment
Amazon (AMZN) has expanded its partnership with Nvidia to deploy millions of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) across its cloud computing infrastructure. The move comes as demand for cloud computing capacity continues to grow, and AWS plans to deploy an additional 2 million Nvidia GPUs between 2027 and 2028.
The deployment will include the Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra systems across AWS infrastructure. This is in addition to Amazon's existing commitment to install 1 million Nvidia chips starting in 2026. The combined deployment would give AWS access to millions of Nvidia GPUs across multiple hardware generations.
AWS and Nvidia also plan to build dedicated AI factories for the U.S. government using 100,000 GPUs. These facilities will use Nvidia hardware and support government computing requirements. Additionally, AWS will add Nvidia's Nemotron models to its Bedrock and SageMaker services.
Amazon has invested in Trainium processors as part of its effort to develop internal hardware. The company continues its Nvidia relationship while developing its own processors through Annapurna Labs. This approach lets Amazon combine its internal processors with Nvidia connectivity technology, extending the partnership beyond GPU purchases.
