Amazon Driver Found Dead in Van Amid Growing Concerns Over Worker Safety
An Amazon delivery driver in Florida was found dead inside her van on August 10. Jaylene Vargas Gonzalez's vehicle had been stationary for hours before a nearby resident called authorities to request a welfare check.
The deputy who responded opened the rear sliding doors and found Vargas Gonzalez unconscious in the back, prompting firefighters to secure the area due to concerns about toxic fumes.
The cause of her death remains under investigation, but it's the latest in a string of fatalities among Amazon warehouse and delivery workers. Since 2022, at least six Amazon employees have died on the job, often due to heat-related illnesses or accidents involving company equipment.
