Amazon Drives Consumer Discretionary Sector to Record-Breaking Gains
The Consumer Discretionary sector of the S&P 500 surged 6.07% on Friday, marking its 18th-best day on record and its best since April 9, 2025.
This rally narrowed the gap between the current level and the May 28 record high to just 5.03%, suggesting that another gain of a similar magnitude would return the sector to record territory.
The rally was largely driven by Amazon's (AMZN) 15.3% gain following its Q2 earnings report, which was almost seven times the advance of the sector's next-best performer.
