Amazon Drone Delivery Expands, Delivers First Package in Style
Amazon has expanded its drone delivery service, increasing the area it covers by about 3500 square miles. An AppleInsider staffer tested the service and found it to be effective, with a delivery time of just over an hour from order placement.
The staffer ordered a package weighing around five pounds, which was delivered within 10 minutes of the estimated time. The drone approached from the north, hovered briefly, and dropped the package into a designated landing zone in the yard.
While the delivery was successful, there were some minor issues with the package's placement. It rolled slightly after being dropped, but this may depend on the specific yard conditions. Amazon allows customers to fine-tune the drop zone when ordering, but it's not precise enough for second-floor balconies or other sensitive areas.
The service currently has no additional cost beyond standard delivery fees, which vary depending on location and time frame. For now, it seems that Amazon Drone delivery is a convenient option, but users should be aware of the potential for packages to roll under cars or into unwanted areas.
