Amazon Drones Take Flight in South Jersey Community
Amazon's plan to introduce drone deliveries in Mantua, New Jersey has sparked mixed reactions among residents. The company's Prime Air service will use drones from a nearby West Deptford fulfillment center to deliver packages, marking the first community in the Philadelphia area to adopt this technology.
The exact launch date for the airborne packages remains unclear, but township officials have engaged with Amazon over concerns about safety, security, and privacy. Mantua Township officials stressed that they don't control the airspace and that drone cameras will not be live monitored.
Some residents, like Rose Storms, expressed curiosity and surprise at the news, while others, such as Marge Killian, voiced opposition to the idea of drones delivering packages. 'I'm from the old school,' Killian said, explaining her preference for shopping in stores rather than relying on online deliveries.
Amazon has already implemented drone delivery services in other areas, including Tampa, Detroit, Phoenix, and Houston.
