Amazon Dumps Another Seattle Office Amid Shift to Bellevue
Amazon is planning to shed another office in Seattle next year as the company continues to reduce its physical footprint. The tech giant will let its lease lapse on an 81,000-square-foot office building at 428 Westlake Ave. N., located in the heart of Amazon's South Lake Union campus. This move comes after a report from brokerage Cushman & Wakefield revealed that Amazon signed the lease in 2016 amid its rapid growth.
The lease runs through 2027 and has two five-year renewal options, according to King County records. However, Amazon did not confirm whether it was leaving the space, stating only that the company regularly evaluates its 'corporate office space to ensure we're best serving our business, employees, and customers.'
This move is part of Amazon's broader trend of shedding office space in Seattle since the pandemic. The company has reduced its workforce in the city from a peak of roughly 60,000 in 2020 to below 50,000 recently.
