Amazon Enters UK Bond Market with Sterling Sale
Amazon has hired banks to arrange its first-ever sterling bond sale, as tech giants rush to raise funding across various currencies to finance their AI transitions.
The e-commerce giant is planning to issue bonds with maturities ranging from three years to 19 years, according to a memo seen by Reuters. The sale may take place as early as Wednesday, subject to market conditions.
Hyperscalers like Amazon and Google-parent Alphabet are increasingly diversifying their financing sources outside of the US dollar bond market due to huge funding needs for AI adoption.
Amazon's sterling bond sale follows Alphabet's successful £5.5 billion ($7.44 billion) deal in February, which included a rare 100-year bond.
