Amazon Expands Drone Delivery Service Across US Metro Areas
Amazon is expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service in the US, aiming to serve almost 500 towns and cities by the end of the year. This represents a sixfold increase from the current levels.
The company currently operates in 10 metro areas from 11 sites, covering an area of 175 square miles each. It plans to soon expand service to Chicago and Atlanta, as well as regions in New York, Ohio, and Idaho.
Amazon's drones can deliver items weighing up to five pounds or less that fit into a large shoebox within 60 minutes. Prime members get free drone delivery on orders of $50 or more, while non-members pay a $5 fee for this service.
