Amazon Expands Drone Delivery to Almost 500 US Cities
Amazon's Prime Air is rapidly expanding its drone delivery service across the US. By the end of this year, nearly 500 cities and towns will have access to the autonomous aircraft, which can transport items weighing up to 5 pounds or less that fit in a large shoe box.
The company has already made the service available in seven states, including Nebraska and Florida. Amazon's drone delivery uses multiple independent systems to ensure safe performance, including its 'Detect-and-Avoid' system, which monitors airspace and the environment.
Customers can check if they're eligible for the service by visiting the Amazon website and selecting 'Drone Delivery' under the 'Programs & Features' section. Once selected, customers will be taken to a webpage that includes a map of current and future locations.
