Amazon Expands Drone Delivery to Nearly 500 U.S. Cities
Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery service is set to expand significantly by the end of 2026, targeting nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns.
This represents a sixfold increase over its current footprint across the United States.
The expansion aims to bring drone delivery access to tens of millions of customers who have not previously had this option available to them, particularly in rural or suburban areas where delivery vehicles may cover long distances between stops and access can be more difficult.
However, dense urban environments like New York, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles are unlikely to see widespread drone delivery anytime soon due to practical and logistical challenges involved. According to Yahoo Finance Tech Editor Dan Howley, the service will remain limited to smaller, lighter items such as medications, with heavier goods being beyond current drone capability.
