Amazon Expands Drone Delivery to South Jersey This Fall
Amazon is expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service to South Jersey, starting from its West Deptford facility this fall. The company plans to operate drones at altitudes below 400 feet and within a 15-mile radius of the warehouse, covering areas in New Jersey and parts of Philadelphia.
The expansion comes after Amazon announced a massive expansion of its Prime Air program, aiming to cover nearly 500 cities and towns nationwide by the end of the year. The company's drones can deliver packages weighing up to 5 pounds or less within 30 minutes to an hour.
Amazon has already started hiring for several West Deptford-based Prime Air positions, including flight monitor, ground manager, and safety and compliance officer. However, some South Jersey residents have raised concerns about the cameras used by the drones and their potential impact on quality of life and safety.
