Amazon Expands Job Training Program to North America
Amazon is expanding its job training program to North America for the first time, launching Project SEARCH in Memphis, Tennessee. The nine-month internship program aims to prepare students with intellectual and developmental disabilities for jobs at Amazon facilities.
Six students from Memphis-Shelby County Schools were selected to participate in the program and will receive hands-on experience while exploring possible career paths. The program is set to hold an intern recognition and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Amazon facility on East Holmes Road.
Amazon launched Project SEARCH in the United Kingdom in 2021, where it has supported over 3,600 young people. Since its launch, about 63% of graduates have secured permanent, paid jobs.
