Amazon Expands Prime Air Drone Delivery Service to 500 US Cities
Amazon is expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service to nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026, a sixfold increase from its current 11 locations across seven states. This move could make ultra-fast delivery a significant advantage for Prime members.
The service currently operates in areas covering roughly 175 square miles and has already completed hundreds of thousands of drone deliveries this year, with some packages reaching customers in as little as 30 minutes. Eligible items include groceries, medications, and electronics, which account for more than 60% of Amazon's most commonly purchased products.
Pricing is designed to encourage adoption, with Prime members paying nothing for drone delivery on orders of at least $50, while smaller Prime orders cost $2.99. Non-Prime customers pay $4.99. This expansion gives Amazon another potential lever for increasing the value of Prime while reducing delivery times on high-frequency purchases.
