Amazon Expands Prime Free Delivery to Sydney and Melbourne
Amazon has expanded its Prime Free delivery service in Australia, introducing overnight and expanded same-day delivery in Sydney and Melbourne. The new service allows eligible orders to be delivered in as little as five hours at no extra cost on orders over $49.
The expansion is part of Amazon's continued rollout of faster delivery options across the country. Since June, Amazon has rolled out Prime free same-day delivery - order by 11am, delivered before 10pm - across a string of locations including Canberra, Geelong, Newcastle and the Central Coast. One-day delivery is now available in 13 locations nationally.
Amazon's investment in its Australian delivery network has reached over $35 billion since 2011, with an additional $1.6 billion invested between 2024 and 2027 to open five new operational sites and create an additional 4,500 jobs once fully operational. The expansion of fast delivery options is designed to fit seamlessly into modern life, allowing customers to shop on their own terms.
Barbell Foods, a Canberra-based small business selling air-dried steak biltong on Amazon, has seen its online sales grow since joining the platform in 2024. 'Speed matters to today's shoppers,' said Ashley Laing, marketing manager at Barbell Foods. 'Knowing that locals can now order our products before breakfast and have them by dinner is awesome.'
