Amazon Expands Supported Internships for Young People with SEND
Amazon has celebrated the graduation of almost three hundred young people who have completed supported internships at its Sutton Coldfield base. The interns, aged 16 to 24, had an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or equivalent due to Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The internship programme was launched in 2021 by Amazon, in partnership with DFN Project Search, a national charity that helps young people with learning disabilities and autism enter the workforce.
Since its launch, the programme has seen over 155 interns secure permanent roles at the company. The supported internships combine classroom education with practical work experience within an Amazon fulfilment centre, where items are stored, packed and shipped.
The company plans to quadruple the programme by 2030, supporting almost one thousand young people into employment.
