Amazon Eyes Land for Suburban County's First Hyperscale Data Center
Amazon Web Services is in talks to build its first hyperscale data center in Butler County, Ohio. The proposed campus would span over 600 acres and feature 18 buildings, each measuring around 220,000 square feet.
The project, which would be the county's first hyperscale data center, would be located near Trenton, a small agricultural city with less than 14,000 residents. Amazon is open to an agreement that would require it to pay 100% of its electric costs, water costs, and related infrastructure upgrades.
The city of Trenton is seeking to annex the land for the project and is considering tax incentives. Local residents have pushed back against the data centers, citing environmental and land use concerns. The city council rejected a petition to ban construction of hyperscale data centers in July.
