Amazon Faces Backlash Over Sale of Anti-Trump Merchandise
Amazon's policy prohibiting merchandise that promotes violence has been called into question after it was discovered that shirts emblazoned with '8647' are still available for sale on the platform. The symbol is widely understood to be slang for assassinating President Trump.
In 2015, Amazon issued a new policy banning Confederate flags and any merchandise carrying the symbol, but some exceptions were made for historical items and books. However, the '8647' symbol appears to promote violence against a specific person, in this case, the President of the United States.
Despite Amazon's policy prohibiting products that 'promote, incite, or glorify violence toward any person or group,' these shirts remain available for purchase, ranging in price from $17.99 to $29.99. The issue has sparked controversy, with some calling on Amazon to enforce its policies consistently.
Amazon and Etsy did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The '8647' symbol is also available on other platforms, including Etsy, where similar listings range in price and style.
